Free Domains and
Free Domain Name Registration

Using free domains for your doorway pages.  A good domain name, one that contains the keywords or search phrase that you use to promote your web site, may help you to rank well on search engines. To increase your traffic from search engines you could set up separate doorway pages for each search phrase, using a domain name based on the same search phrase. A doorway page is a web page, which is designed specifically to channel visitors to your main web site. As multiple domains does dramatically increase the cost of web hosting, there is a temptation to use one or more free domain names to set up these doorway pages for your web site.  You can even use a free hosting service to host your doorway pages.

Why you should be careful with free domain names. A domain name is supposed to protect your site against a change of hosting provider. If you need to move your web site to another hosting provider, you can take the domains with you and, as a result, you keep your existing visitors and traffic. With a free domain name you run the risk of loosing your domain, when the free domain name registrar decides it can sell the domain name you promoted at a huge profit. Hence, if you use free domain names, don't use them for your main pages that you actively promote.

Here are some free domain name registrars.
